The Gobernador Representational Style shows supernatural beings known as yei (Yeibichai) that are prominent in Navajo mythology and are ceremonially personated by masked dancers, and mythic heroes; "shields"; shield-figures; eagles and other birds; stepped "cloud" terraces and pyramids similar to those of Anasazi. Celestial subjects are part of Navajo mythology, and celestial symbolism is represented on the masks of yei and on other ceremonial paraphernalia, and in dry paintings using colored sand and other pigments.
